Description
Until recently, the vast majority of embedded systems employed uniprocessor designs. The situation is changing quickly, with many systems migrating to multiprocessor designs. However, with the availability of Intel multi-core processors that offer greater processing capacity while reducing overall power consumption, getting your software up and running is, in many cases, fairly straightforward. The real challenge lies in getting the software to make full use of all the processor’s cores. This webinar will discuss the Intel multi-core processing platforms available today and provide a view into the upcoming offerings. It will then review the various multi-processing models (e.g. AMP, SMP and BMP) and discuss how each model affects code migration, parallelism, debugging and shared resources. The webinar will explore the tools available to help developers debug and optimize their multi-core applications and conclude with a worked example demonstrating how the tools can be used to maximize the performance on an Intel quad-core system.

Estimated length: 1 hour, including Q & A.

Who should attend: This one-hour seminar with a short Q&A will be of great interest to embedded software development managers, architects, and developers who are considering using a multi-core processor for an upcoming project.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this session.

Speaker Biographies:
Romain Saha has over 15 years of experience in the telecom industry, including both semiconductors and software. Currently, he is the Netcom Segment Manager at QNX Software Systems, where he is responsible for managing all aspects of QNX's networking business. Prior to joining QNX, he held positions of increasing responsibility in product management and product marketing at MOSAID Technologies and AIT Corporation. Mr. Saha holds a Bachelor's of Science and a Bachelor's of Commerce from Carleton University, Ottawa.

Navneet Malpani is a Software Technical Marketing Engineer at Intel Corporation. He received his Bachelor’s degree from India, his Master’s degree from Texas A&M (both in computer science) and most recently his MBA from Babson College. During Navneet’s 7 years at Intel, the first 5 years were spent as a software engineer developing device drivers for storage cards, network devices and video codecs; also extensive work on multi-threaded media applications. Over the past 2 years, he has been supporting Intel’s embedded customers with their firmware solution, helping them transition their software to multi-core processors and supporting technologies like virtualization and Intel Active Management Technology. Apart from this he provides technical support to BIOS and OS vendors that support Intel platforms intended for the embedded market.
